The ASIA PACIFIC SPACE DESIGNERS' ASSOCIATION (APSDA) was founded by the Chinese Society of Interior Designer (CSID), the Japanese Society of Commercial Designers (JCD) and Korean Society of Interior Designers (KOSID) in 1989 in Taipei, Taiwan.

In 1989 other Asian countries were invited as observers in their congress and their congress was called "ASIA PACIFIC SPACE CONGRESS" It was attended by Asian countries in the Asia-Pacific region among others, Malaysia, Indonesia, Hong Kong, The Philippines, Singapore and Australia. Until 1991 at the Inaugural Assembly of APSDA Congress which took place at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Seoul, the founders had agreed to accept countries from the Asia-Pacific region as members. The congress was attended by Malaysia (MSID), Indonesia (HDII), The Philippines (PIID), Australia (DIA), Japan (JID), Thailand (TIDA), and Hong Kong (IDA).

The congress holds their meetings bi annually. Since the Fukuoka Congress in 1996, founders agreed to have the congress outside the founding members' countries for the first time.

In 1998 the first APSDA congress held outside the founder members' countries was organized in Kuala Lumpur, hosted by MSID at Shah Alam, Malaysia. The APSDA 2000 Congress was hosted by HDII in the exotic island of Bali, Indonesia and the APSDA 2002 Congress was hosted by PIID in Manila, Philippines.

It is with great pride that APSDA 2004 Congress shall be held in Hong Kong, People's Republic of China, to be hosted by Interior Design Association Hong Kong (HKIDA).

OBJECTIVE OF APSDA

APSDA is the gathering for designers from all over the Asia Pacific region, its objectives are:

 
To socialize and better understand the different cultures of its members
 
To exchange information and knowledge between members through networking
 
To enable us to work closer and better to achieve a better solution for our design community in facing the free trade zone to come
