IIID Centre Opens in Delhi

The Delhi Centre of the Indian Institute of Interior Designers (IIID) ( lipika@vsnl.com ) formally came into being in April this year, and Prof  K T Ravindran took over as its first chairman at an impressive ceremony in the city. Headquartered in Mumbai, IIID is the apex body of interior design professionals in India.

Highlighting the aims of the Delhi centre, the chairman said the body would act as a facilitator for Programmes on education and research in the field of interior design. He also called for greater solidarity among design professionals, as the anticipated that the post WTO scenario from 2005 could become very challenging, consequent to the entry of foreign professionals in the Indian market.

The inaugural event, which was sponsored by Schneider Electric India Pvt Ltd and Kich Industries, became a memorable evening for the design fraternity, with a galaxy of speakers from the interior design and architecture community gracing the occasion. Accepting the charter marking the installation of the first managing committee in Delhi, Ravindran said, “Widening cooperation among related bodies at national and international levels would be our priority.”

The centre will offer membership in associate, fellow, affiliate, education, licentiate, honorary, student, donor and press categories. Those designers offered felicitations on this occasion included Shrikant Nivasarkar, Karan Grover and Bakir Baldiwala.
